Greetings, Alamogordo colleagues, staff and community!

It is with the sincerest enthusiasm that I introduce myself to you as APS’ new Community Schools Coordinator. I come to you with 17 years of experience in public education, as both a teacher and a school administrator. I am a transplant to NM, with a bulk of my career having been serving language learners (both children and adults), as an ESL teacher at the elementary, secondary, and college level in Iowa, where I am originally from. I’ve also taught 1st grade in a bilingual program, and high school Spanish. My experience as a school administrator was as an elementary principal at two different campuses in rural communities in both Iowa and Oregon, and as a district Migrant Services Coordinator for a district in Oregon. I also spent my first months here in the area working for CYFD as an investigator. Through this variety of professional experiences, my core values as an educator and leader have remained: equity, student self-determination, empathy, and empowerment. My passion is providing student and family centered services to diverse, underprivileged demographics, and removing barriers to student learning and success.

On the personal side, I am a mother of four incredible kids, three of whom still live at home with me, and one who stayed in Oregon to work and attend nursing school at OHSU. When I’m not here working, you can find me hiking with my girls and dogs, checking out regional state parks (looking for places to camp, hike, and kayak), and just enjoying quiet time at home in Las Cruces, cooking, listening to music, writing, working on my house, quoting various old 80s movies, building “stuff” out of pallet wood, and repurposing old furniture.

I am incredibly excited to be joining the APS Student Health Services team, and working to bring equitable, holistic services in a way that grows with student and community needs, and focuses resources toward the whole child and their family. I look forward to meeting more of you, so don’t be surprised if I just show up at your campus, business, or location unannounced sometime in the near future--with donuts and a smile!

Here’s to a fantastic year,
