                                                      WELCOME MILITARY FAMILIES!

On behalf of the Alamogordo Public Schools, I extend a heartfelt “Welcome to Alamogordo!” Whether you’re anticipating a PCS to Holloman Air Force Base, being called up to serve in the Active Guard or Reserve, or have been on active duty in the community for some time, we are thankful for your service to our country. I want to assure you that the Alamogordo School District recognizes the unique needs and challenges of those who serve in the United States’ Armed Forces, as well as the unique needs and challenges of your children. We understand that military families serve, too!

I am proud, and thankful, that APS and Holloman AFB have strong connections. We have worked well at building bridges and fostering reciprocal communication as mutual stakeholders, to include those who serve in other duty locations throughout our area. The Alamogordo School Board is honored to have the Military School Liaison Officer for Holloman A.F.B. serve as an Ex-Officio Member. The Holloman School Liaison Officer and our school counselors/principals work closely together to identify and serve the needs of our military-connected personnel. Additionally, APS and Holloman collaborate in the sharing of resources which range from volunteer personnel to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) opportunities.

Every school in our district has military-connected students enrolled, with Alamogordo High School, Buena Vista Elementary, Sierra Elementary, Yucca Elementary, Holloman Middle, and Holloman Elementary schools being the most impacted by significant numbers of your children – our students! Principals, school counselors, and teachers each know their military-connected students. Special training has been and will continue to be offered to district personnel to further enhance an understanding of the military culture. As a school district, we are committed to serving every student with excellence.

Please consider this a personal invitation to join us when we hold town hall meetings, focus group discussions, School Board meetings, and community-based events. Your presence and voice are welcomed. If you should ever have any questions, I hope you will contact your child's/children's principal, or contact me through Lisa Patterson at (575-812-6001).

Once again, Welcome!
