Here to help...

Alamogordo Public Schools fully supports the efforts of Holloman Air Force Base, it's mission and the importance to our community.

As such APS recognizes that our military connected students need assistance as they transition into the school District. This is why, APS employs a full-time Military Community Liaison to assist the nearly 500 military connected students attending school within APS.  The APS Military Community Liaison (MCL) partners with the Holloman AFB School Liaison Officer with various military connected student groups throughout the year.

These students can consist of active duty dependents (children of a service member who is currently serving an active, full-time commitment in the military) and military connected students (children of retired military, part-time National Guard and Reserve, civilian contractors who work on federal property, medically retired and the dependents of deceased service members).  Each of these military connected students have unique academic situations that may require assistance as they attend school within the district.

Along with the partnership of the APS MCL and the Holloman AFB School Liaison Officer, APS employs a full-time military connected counselor and partners with the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC).  APS sponsors military connected clubs and activities on all of its school campuses and its Superintendent holds regular meetings with military parents and Holloman AFB leadership.

Alamogordo Public Schools recognizes that military students cope with two major challenges which may affect their ability to be successful in the classroom to include: transitions in and out of district and family separations.  As a result, APS identifies and interacts with military-connected students in all schools, and it establishes programs to engage and support military-connected students both in and out of school. APS trains counselors, administrators, teachers and parents on the Military Compact, and they work closely to foster the relationship between APS and Holloman AFB.

Military-connected youth require time, effort and support by the public school district.
